Conversations facilitated with the leadership teams from the participating Digital Promise pilot school districts revealed that all seven districts shared the same data objective at the beginning of their data analytics journeys―to leverage their application usage data to identify the cost per user of their digital applications and platforms.

Given the budget restrictions education communities have faced over the past several years and the significant software investments districts have had to recently make, this shared commitment to assessing the return on investment of digital tools is not surprising.

However, once the school districts began reviewing and analyzing their data, each district’s leaders quickly moved beyond looking at the ROI of the apps and began to craft and create their own unique and much more expansive data journey. The following map charts out the paths and strategies that emerged from these innovative leadership teams.
