How Seven Districts Are Turning Data Into Action

CatchOn and Digital Promise joined forces to provide participating Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools a quick way to track the efficacy of technology investments and monitor digital engagement at the student level. The following report includes aggregated data analysis and shares the stories of these seven districts as they utilized educational technology and data to address the urgent challenges in their school systems.

Their stories – combined with the data analytics gleaned from the pilot program – highlight best practices and patterns of digital engagement and learning that have the potential to transform their pedagogy, technology purchasing strategies, and data privacy compliance.

CatchOn’s mission is to support teaching and learning through more effective uses of data and technology. By capturing and sharing insights on which technologies are truly effective for schools, learning outcomes can be improved at a lower cost, thereby providing a gateway to a higher quality education for more students. CatchOn was founded in 2016 by Jena Draper, a technology-enthusiast with a passion for improving learning outcomes in the classroom. Draper created CatchOn to bridge that gap and provide school districts with the data required to make informed choices about the apps and digital resources they are purchasing and adopting.

Digital Promise was created with the mission to accelerate innovation in education to improve opportunities to learn. The organization works at the intersection of education leaders, researchers, and technology developers to improve learning opportunities for all and close the Digital Learning Gap. Because when all learners have equitable access to technology, when everyone participates, and when everyone learns, we all benefit from a more engaged, informed and just society.

Project Tomorrow® is a nationally recognized, education nonprofit organization with a focus on understanding the impact of new learning models and interventions on student outcomes and teacher effectiveness. Our mission is to help education, business and policy leaders make the best decisions for education through the effective use of research-based insights that highly leverage the authentic views and perspectives of K-12 stakeholders, notably students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Our work includes the highly regarded Speak Up Research Project and an annual series of customized evaluation, feedback and efficacy studies that examine key trends in education.
