CatchOn How-To: Professional Development Opportunities With CatchOn

Which Applications Need PD Support?

CatchOn’s My Applications tab is a great starting point for analyzing application usage for which you may want to consider PD opportunities. At the top of this list, you can filter both by tags (including your assigned district tags) and categories. For example, if your curriculum team is planning Math PD, they can consider math applications to add to the training.

After applications are selected, the Usage Trend Graph can give you a quick overview of unique users for these applications over any time frame for as long as you have been collecting data in CatchOn. You can even break down usage at different campuses in your district to determine if you should only offer PD to teachers at certain schools.

Along with My Applications, creating a custom dashboard focused on applications you are monitoring for PD purposes can be helpful.

To create a new dashboard, click the “Create New Dashboard” button in the top right corner of the dashboard page, and then populate your dashboard with any of CatchOn’s widgets to give insight into usage around the district. If you would like assistance with creating dashboards, please contact your Customer Success Manager who is happy to assist.

Remember that all of CatchOn’s widgets can be exported as an image file, pdf, csv, or to Google Sheets so you can easily include the usage data in your PD slide decks.

Finally, don’t forget to monitor CatchOn after PD is complete to see how training impacts usage in the new school year.

CatchOn utilizes the roster you upload to identify the campus, grade, course, and sections of a user, so keeping your roster updated is important for making sure your data is accurate. This is most true at the start of a new school year when there are changes in student grade levels as well as staff transitions. An easy way to keep your roster always up to date is by doing a regular SFTP Export from your SIS or utilizing CatchOn’s new OneRoster API connector. You can implement this using the instructions in the “Deploy CatchOn” section of our help content. You may have also heard the exciting news that the CatchOn Class-Level Module is now included in the standard CatchOn subscription. To obtain class and section-level data, a roster exported in the IMS Global OneRoster Format is required. If you are currently utilizing our Lite Rostering format and would like to transition to OneRoster, please let your Customer Success Manager know. Agents Districts across the country have purchased thousands of new devices to assist with eLearning this fall. CatchOn customers should make sure our agent is installed on the new devices before distributing them to students to ensure valuable data is captured. Most MDM setups should automatically include CatchOn based on how the agent was originally pushed out, but it never hurts to double check. The CatchOn team is available to assist with agent deployment if needed. Application Licenses For many of our CatchOn customers, July 1 is the renewal date for most of their education software purchases. To gather Return on Investment (ROI) and more detailed usage analytics in My Apps, these new licenses should be entered into CatchOn. For renewals, instead of editing your previous license and extending its expiration date, we recommend adding a new license. This allows you to see your renewal history for all of your apps inside of CatchOn. Approved Applications Last spring, CatchOn introduced the public facing approved applications site. This allows you to share with your stakeholders the applications you have vetted for student data privacy, academic rigor, and approved for usage in the district. Updating this list can be an easy way to make sure technology expectations are effectively communicated to teachers and families. Scheduled Reports We know that with the difficulties facing school and district leaders right now, remembering to log in to CatchOn can take a back seat. We do have automated email reports that can come weekly or monthly, giving you insight into application and device usage in your district. You can also send these reports to any email address you want, regardless of if they have a CatchOn account. Reports can be for the entire district or for specific campuses, so this is a great way to give principals information around device and application use for their teachers and students. You can set these up in the reports tab of CatchOn.
